Liverpool Male Voice Choir was established in 1911; originally known as Wavertree Male Voice Choir. During its 100 years existence, the Choir has performed throughout the U.K. at many famous concert halls, cathedrals and outdoor venues. Our President for several years was the late Edmund Walters. 'Wally's' compositions and arrangements still form part of the Choir’s repertoire, and the repertoires of several other choirs, too.In past years the Choir has competed successfully at many of the choral festivals throughout the U.K. The Choir is currently concentrating on concert singing with a wide repertoire which includes traditional male voice choir music, spirituals, songs form popular musicals, operatic choruses and modern music. The Choir also enjoys the distinction of having sung in Japanese when hosting a choir from Kagawa, Japan. The Choir has organized hugely successful massed male voice concerts at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall and participated in other prestigious massed choir events at Cardiff and Leeds. Recently, the Choir entertained many people attending the ‘Narnia Experience’ at St Georges Hall, Liverpool. Our next concert is at the Huyton Suite, Huyton Civic Centre on Saturday 17th September 2011 (7.30pm). The variety of the Choir's programmes is enhanced by the high quality performances of soloists, duettists and quartettists drawn from the Choir. Friendship, camaraderie and fun enhances our enjoyment of singing and our enthusiastic pursuit of choral excellence.Written firmly into the Constitution of the Choir is its commitment to help and support! We support not only many deserving charities, which have benefited by many thousands of pounds, but also churches and organizations wishing to raise funds for good causes. All requests for concerts are given sympathetic consideration. The Choir, currently about 40 strong, embarked on a vigorous recruitment campaign for new members in 2008 (when involved in Liverpool's '2008 Capital of Culture' programme), and this is ongoing. The Choir is exceptionally busy this year as we celebrate our Centenary anniversary. Led by our very talented Musical Director Doreen Forbes, the Choir gives between 12 and 15 concerts a year, that includes 4 Carol Concerts in the Christmas Season. Doreen is ably supported by Danny Gerrard, Choir accompanist. The joint presidency of the Choir is currently held by Councillor Gerry Scott and Mrs Ann Scott who became associated with the Choir during their year of office as Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of the City of Liverpool. Their 'hands on' approach to supporting the Choir is very much appreciated by the members.
